It has never been easy making decisions in life and to be quite honest, it’s one of the hardest things to do especially when we grow older or more mature. Because as you know, maturity doesn’t come with age.
A brother once told me, that when ever you are to make a decision, you should always consider yourself first than anybody. If you’re able to do this, you will excel better than you think. You might hurt a lot of people in the process, but that wouldn’t matter at the end of the day because you’d be the sole bearer of the consequence(s).
You have to be truthful to yourself while taking decisions. This is essential. This part will hurt you or make you better and by the time you realise you have to be truthful to yourself first…you know you are making a head way.
People make decisions for wrong reasons. Either peer pressure, family pressure or what have you. Some make decisions because of what people would say about them. The latter is the worst of them all. You have to be a man of your word, weigh your options because at the end of the day, those people you think are going to judge you, have long decided to leave if things go south. They look at you initially like a fool but the funny part is that its better being your own fool than someone else’s.
There is an adage in Igbo which says “It’s only a mad man who knows what is on his mind” or “a mad man’s thought is only best known to him.” So if you can really understand what this means, it shows you are making a head way.
Mind you, while making a decision, you are prone to failure and while you contemplate not to fail or to be successful at your decision, you should have it at the back of your mind that failure only gives birth to more success. You learn more when you fail, because you even tried at first. Like the old saying goes, “experience is the best teacher.” This time around, you are the one that experienced it first hand and you know what flaws you had and that is the only thing that will make you grow and become better.
